So my latest reading has been
3 cups of tea a book of Greg Mortensen's travels to K2 and humanitarian efforts in war/weather torn Pakistan/Afghanistan. Truly inspired because he articulates many of the thoughts I've failed to put into words post Nepal. I have to do something, but I'm not sure what. I definitely recommend this book - this is coming from someone who never reads (went through high school reading 2 books))
So I've turned to other mountaineering documentaries. One of which I just watched last night. "Everest" by Discovery Channel documenting the 2006 ascent by Russel Brice's clients. Awed and very pleased at being able to live vicariously through these people, I also appreciated the documentary outlining the dangers of this fleeting moment of glory. In particular, I was saddened by how man becomes so fixated on temporal goals that they selffishly place themselves/others in danger. As well, moving past people left for dead is just unimaginable. It sickens me to think of how lavishly I live in North America while my fellow human compadres are scounging just to get by. I mean here we are dying of obesity while most of the globe in starving to death and dying of cureable/preventable illnesses.
all the more reason why I hope to take from the rich and give back to the poor. There is an unequal distribution of wealth that is sickening. And what is horrendous to see is that we're so ignorant or complacent to death and suffering until it happens to us or someone very close to us. OK, enough of my ranting I must get back to scheming how I can cultivate RT skills to hopefully bring to those in dire need.
