Hi Tony, I'm a moderate and as I get older (and since I got out of the Air Force) I've been leaning more to conservatism, so I'm not a fan of Michael Moore. I did think the movie SICKO was interesting though, and at the time I was…

Tony commented on Bob Miglino's event '10th anniversary FOCUS on Respiratory Care & Sleep Medicine Conference'
I would be more inclined to attend if the Focus Conference was a little less political in its appearance. I am not sure what Michael Moore was doing on the advertisement for the 2009 conference, but I don't think I would put a lot of…

Tony commented on GHALIB NAWAZ's blog post 'best mode for ventilation?????????'
This question and others like it always interests me. I don't think there is a "best" mode of ventilation for all patients with any diagnosis. I think there are to many factors to simply put out a best. I also don't think that…

Tony replied to Johani's discussion 'Which mode is better, A/C or SIMV?'
First let me say right up front that I think SIMV is outdated and pretty much obsolete, but as much as SIMV is outdated, so is A/C. I have a hard time with conversations like this for several reasons, first the mode is secondary to the skill of the…

Hi Tony,

I'm a moderate and as I get older (and since I got out of the Air Force) I've been leaning more to conservatism, so I'm not a fan of Michael Moore. I did think the movie SICKO was interesting though, and at the time I was searching for what might be provocative for my keynote event. I thought of showing the movie Sicko and following it with an open forum where people could come up to microphones and give their two cents using a moderator. I invited Newt Gingerich to be moderator but he couldn' attend. I then invited Ted Koppel but he wanted $100,000, so I settled on one of our speakers Dr. Frank Roman who is a doctor and a lawyer (and hates Michael Moore). Anyway, it came off great. The movie was seen by 2600 attendees and ALL said it was indeed thought provocative - thus, for me the mission was accomplished because I aim to make people think and everyone did. This year, we're having two keynote addresses, one by the The Disney Institute giving an interesting lecture about using Disney techniques to promote patient's staying loyal to your institution and a second address by the "father of sleep medicine, Dr. William Dement who is outstanding. He will give an address on the overall importance of sleep in our society and how society suffers from lack of it. You will be very impressed by his talk if you join us..
I noticed you were a department head. You should know that for our 10th anniversary we are allowing directors to bring their significant-other free, so consider joining us. If you do please look me up so I can put the name with the face, welcome you personally and meet your wife. I'd be honored to have you join us. And don't be shy about bringing the kids, they'll love Disney - I'll see to it! (or send the kids to Grandma's and have a mini, tax deductible getaway with just your wife.

Regards,
Bob Miglino RRT BSRT MPS - Chairman

We are also CAH, trying to hold at 25 beds. It is not so much as too many patients as we do not have ICU nurses and have to ship. We are full on an average of 2 days per month. Nursery seems to stay steady. But we ship all of our critical babies. But I wouldn't trade and work in a bigger town. There is some legislation out there to change CAH from 25 bed daily to an average of 25 within a year. That would probably help us all out. We also have 3 hospitalists and our average stay is 2,9 days.

Cody is high priced for housing, most of us live away from Cody. We currently live 45 miles away. The hospital is one of the nicer facilities that I have worked in. The employees are seen as assets. I have a great staff that has very little turnover. Today has been rough, we have 2 vents up and running, this is unusual as we have not had one for 6 months. We are a small 25 bed hospital with a 3 room ICU. Our ER has the capability for 6 patients. They have been streaming in all day also.
Take care. Gail
