"Better lung down.  Gravity allows for better circulation to the lung that is down.   This allows for better V/Q mismatch (in the better lung). "

"Pretty sure it's better lung down, it puts less pressure on the bad lung. The dependent lung being the one with pna?  "

"better lung should be upper side, because at that time whole body depend upon better lung, when you keep better lung down it may loose compliance with resistance, and you can not predict the time when your bad lung will be healand it may take long time."

Ventilating in the lateral position

I have gone over a few articles and haven't seen to make any head way in a search for an answer. My question is if a patient has unilateral pneumonia, should I ventilate them with the better lung up or down? Also is the dependant lung referred to as the lung with atelectasis? Thanks for your help.See More
