I have gone over a few articles and haven't seen to make any head way in a search for an answer.
My question is if a patient has unilateral pneumonia, should I ventilate them with the better lung up or down?
Also is the dependant lung referred to as the lung with atelectasis?

Permalink Reply by Alicia Cannizzo on March 12, 2012 at 3:33pm Better lung down. Gravity allows for better circulation to the lung that is down. This allows for better V/Q mismatch (in the better lung).
