Seeking any information on working overseas. Saudai/Dubai area..

Hey Fellow RT's

I am currently looking into working abroad for a couple of years over in Saudi or Dubai, UAE area. I was wondering if anyone has any information of any kind. If you have been there and done it, or are currently working abroad. Stories, contacts. Any kind of information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time
Darren

Ive been here in KSA for 4 years now. in my experience, Saudi is advisable for married people wid lots of responsibilities or atleast livig as couples.. Here, ul get a chance to earn more, but spend less because 1st, Saudi is a tax free country. 2nd, accomodations are usually provided by your employer. 3rd, if ur a guy, u can afford to buy a car as ur service at a very low cost plus cheap price of gasoline everywhere. If ur gonna come here as single, i tell u, its gonna be a culture shock! for everyting.. maybe it'll take a few months before u can absorb eerything unusual here.. lol!

goodluck!
Hi Darren! I have been working at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for more than 4 years now, used to work at Prince Sultan Cardiac Center in Riyadh before, went to Canada in between for a year, but missed the expat lifestyle too much. Just to let you know that we currently have new openings in our hospital and if you are interested in finding out more details you can contact me. Also I would like to follow-up on James' comment above (no offense James :o) ). I can not discuss the salaries or benefits on this website due to confidentiallity concerns, but all I can say openly is that yes the workload may be a bit high compared to some other hospitals ( by the way ratio of 1 to 12 is exagerated! ), but the job description is great and very rewarding, working conditions are great, benefits-housing package competitive, and lifestyle is way better than any other place in middle-east in my opinion, otherwise I would not still be here. Lifestyle is so great that my wife and I are not sure if we will ever be able to leave this place and go back to Canada. You make your own experience, and because other people have had a bad experience does not mean yours will be bad too! So what I may suggest is do not pay much attention to bad comments from people, do you own inquiries with right people, and then you can decide by yourself what is good for you or not. Send me a private message if you want to discuss more. Good luck!
If you are Canadian or American, Most of the hospital in GCC countries pays you well. Majority of them. Choose King Faisal Specialist Hosp in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. SKMC in Abu dhabi UAE. Hamad Hospital in Qatar. These are the best choices for you guys
Having been an RT in Saudi Arabia for 5 total years in the 90's and up till 9/11, I say don't waste your time. If your an American travel in the USA, you'll make as much or more money. The hospitals in Saudi have marginal care at best. I worked at Al-Fanateer hospital in Jubail, King Fahad National Guard Hospital in Riyadh, and King Khalid National Guard in Jeddah.
If you are set on middle east work you may consider The American hospital in Dubai, I know people who have worked there and they enjoyed it.
Just keep one thing in mind when considering Saudi, no girlfriends, no alcohol, no movie theaters, no nightlife. Much of your time is thinking about your next vacation.
Also remember the work week in Saudi is 48 hours a week. Do the math and you'll find you aren't really earning that much money.

Example: SR12,000/month= $39,989/ year US and you work 2496 hours/year

US $25/hour= $46,875/ year US and you work 1876 hours at 36hours/week, work 48hours a week in the USA and your pay would go up to $62,475/year.

Just my opinion
Thanks for the Information.....
