The First Social Network for Respiratory Care
Hello Fellow RTs,
I'm stucked up with a doubt of the need of RRT/CSRT/ CRT certification in Gulf countries. I know that RRT/CSRT/CRT Certifications are required to work in the US/Canada. Then why is it getting mandate in areas outside the US & Canada?
Let me justify my question.. Its actually the Board certification of US and Canada to issue the Licensure for practicing Respiratory Care in the respective Countries, and Why the Non-US/Canada Candidate apply for the same job in Gulf with the same Educational Qualification (BS-RT/ MS-RT without RRT/CSRT/CRT etc) & Experience are getting rejected IF THE POSTS ARE FOR Respiratory Therapists, SENIOR RTs, SUPERVISORS etc. Why NON US/NON CANADA trained RTs are considered as RESPIRATORY TECHNICIANS???????
I wanted to detail a little more. Am an Indian and with much difficulty am establishing the profession of RT in my area. Several times my students have asked me about their job prosperity in foriegn countries and I answered them confidentally that YOU ARE GONNA SAVE LIVES AND WILL DO THE BEST. Some of them called me back, say after 1-2 years and they are saying that "SIR, WE CANNOT GO AHEAD IN OUR CAREER WITHOUT RRT/CRT, AS ITS LIKE A PRE-REQUISITE IN OUR PROFESSION".
So its my question to my Friends of this profession... What shall a candidate do if they dont have a RRT/CRT etc and WANTED TO BUILD UP THEIR CAREER???
In our RT schools, we are ready to build up TIE-UPS with US-Accredited Universities for getting RRT/ CRT Licensure Eligibility Examinations. BUT IT WONT WORK OUT, AS RRT/CRT/CSRT STATUS IS ONLY MEANT FOR US/CANADA CANDIDATES. One of the Indian University tried to get an accreditation with an US university-- BUT MONEY MATTERS THERE-- THAT TOO ONE CRORE INDIAN RUPEES.. So it was dropped there... WHO'S LOOSER THERE??? THE STUDENTS!!
SO WHAT HAS TO BE DONE?? MAY I REQUEST MY FRIENDS TO COMMENT ON THIS SCENARIO WHATS HAPPENING!! IS THERE ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME OUT TO GET A SOLUTION FOR THIS TREND OF WHATS HAPPENING WITH NON-US/NON-CANADA RT'S..
Regards,
MANJUSH

What you are saying was right. It is unfortunate that some decision makers (I mean RTs) started that more than a decade ago. Historically, It had been a must to get NBRC certificate in order to get promoted and/or working in critical care areas. This pattern of evaluation is almost disapeared as more staff and graduates came on board over the past ten years (That's mainly in Saudi Arabia as It holds the majority of RT population in the region). There is very few residual of this kind of thinking (that the RT must have north american board), but I am sure, this will not last any longer.
As a person and senior official in Dubai, I do believe on our internal evaluation skills and technical comptencies. It is good to have extra, including NBRC exams, but they are not Mandatory.
In Dubai, it is NOT considered as important to hold NBRC certificate when it comes for both, recruitment or promotion. The ONLY gauge is the RT bundle of performance, proactivity, attitude, self discipline, knowledge update, and productivity.
So, in DHA, there is NO such things as I am the one who gonna establish the licensure system (in process).
I will do my best to protect our profession and work hard for its promotion and growth.
I hope that you got answers for your questions.
