National Asthma Educator Certification Board Examination

I am preparing myself for the NAECB exam and wanted to know if anyone here knew of a good study guide, text book or any other kind of resource to help me pass the exam.

And to those who have already taken the exam, do you have any tips?

Thank you

I am planning to take this exam. But NAECB exam center is not yet established out side the USA.

Good Luck for your Exam.

Doha, Qatar.
Thank you for the information and I hope you get a chance to take the exam too.
Hello Zahara,
I have took the exam myself long time ago and they did not have any studying materials at that time, however, since you’re in the US "I presume", they usually hold a 2 or 3 days workshops that cover the exam content.
My personal tip is to know your drugs and how many puffs each of them has along with social services for your patients.

Regards,
Thank you for the tip. It is much appreciated. Unfortunately non of the workshops that I found will be held in my state during the next couple of months.
I'm adding this for anyone who wants to take this exam in the future. These are the references I used:

- The Asthma Educator's Handbook by Christopher H. Fanta, Elaine L. Carter, Elisabeth S.Steib, Kenan E. Haver from the Partners Asthma Center. Published by Mc Graw Hill Medical. This is a very comprehensive book that is up to date, easy to read and goes into the details of developing an asthma action plan and is full of practical tips.

- NAECB Exam Secrets Study Guide Published by Morrison Media LLC In general I did NOT find this book very useful. The first 20 pages are about how to study and take exams in general. The only sections I found helpful was the section on Organizational Issues and Family Assessment.

- Expert Panel Report 3: Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma from The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute and The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program. most of the exam content came from this.
It can be downloaded from: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/asthma/

- GINA the Global Initiative for Asthma's web site http://www.ginasthma.com/ has guidelines and resources that are used on the exam too.

I also benefited from taking the online practice test. The questions on the exam were very similar to the practice test so it was worth the time and money. It can be found on the NAEBC web site: http://www.naecb.org/

There were a couple of questions on the test regarding the different types of health insurance plans and the coverage each offers. And many technical questions regarding how to use the different types of inhalers and the number of doses per canister.
An Asthma Educator Certification Preparation Course is now available online from the AARC. It can be found on the AARC website www.aarc.org
Don't waste your money know the free material available>http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/asthma/asthgdln.htm
