Guys I just dont have any belief on this machine. I think its just a waste of thousands of dollars. :) i'd rather used a well lubricated, smaller size suction catheter, with enough pressure to stimulate cough and suction the patient.

Can somebody here change my mind? No offense to the manufacturer LOL.

what machine you are using?
Im talking about all the cough-assist machines in general sir.
a local consultant trained in the U.S. and Canada got home and set up his practice holding high post in the pediatrics department. According to him he had exposure on this equipment during his training in North America so he want to bring it here for the locals. The hospital by his recommendation not only bought a machine but 5 in addition to our old insufflator. The consultant even ordered the pressure inspiration and expiration. (since the machine is new, we developed a protocol adapted to his order) in the beginning we (rts) got mixed concern about the therapy regimen. I agree with most that sometimes good CPT with suctioning is better than this treatment. We even got patient with this treatment on tracheostomy and using Bipap machine. I do not want to comment I just want to share to you our experience here.
You're not using it properly. The cough assist is a great machine for a person with a weak cough.
Paolo Good Questions .I have asked Respironics to send across a Demo Machine. Will get back to you once i get to it.

RT wanted In Saudi.

Cheers.

Prem.
Another option would be the IPV machine, which is also good for secretion management. Suctioning works well, but causes trauma to the patient. If more than 1-2 times per day of NT suctioning is needed it will cause too much nasal trauma. I also use high humdity/flow nasal cannula at 40 lpm to help loosen the secretions in the larger airways. This allows the weak patient to raise secretions easier.
