RT SPACE

The First Social Network for Respiratory Care

Good morning everyone,

I have been working as a RRT in Canada for over 5 years. I have experience in ICU, NICU and ER. It has been my dream, since I was a child, to spend the rest of my life in Florida. When I chose RT, I was led to believe that it was possible for me, one day, to work in the US. Only recently have I learnt that visas were not given out to RTs.

This has been very frustrating for me... to the point where I have started a program in nursing for the sole purpose of being able to move to Florida one day. Can you imagine how badly I must want it.

I am about to start my second year into the Nsg program and I am already very discouraged with it. I am writing this here hoping that someone out there might be able to help me.... Does anyone know of any programs or hospitals that offer sponsorship to Canadian RRTs who wish to work in the US ?

Thank you very much for your time.

Hi! I know a while ago the was a company offering 6 months contracts to work in the US (California), not sure the name or if they still exist. Other than that as far as I am concerned you need to get your green card, which is virtually impossible for Canadian RT's. Strange thing is you can write the NBRC exam, but unless you are married to an American citizen or have roots in the US yourself it is pretty much impossible to use that NBRC!. But then again I love it when I am wrong. I'd be curious to see what other people have to say. Another option if you are Canadian and want to work in US territory, one option is to work in Saipan or Guam. They do accept Canadians, or at least they used to when I inquired about it 6 years ago. By the way, if you want to go in Florida because of the beaches, why don't you come work with us in Sheikh Khalifa Medical CIty in Abu Dhabi, UAE? Let me know if you are interested in more info.
