A Global Community for Respiratory Therapist

“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” From Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, 1594

So we get it, what matters is what something is, not what it is called. But let’s talk about names for the fun of it. Are we RTs (Respiratory Therapists) OR are we RCPs (Respiratory Care Practitioners)??? Which is more politically correct? I think it’s RCP but it doesn’t seem to be catching on!

What do you think?

RCP is indeed a more politically correct term, RT is a bureaucratic form. When I was working in the Philippines, the senior "RCPs" were actually RMTs (Registered Medical Technologist/s)who were trained and chose respiratory care as their profession, so they would fit the term "RCP" even though they did not take a formal study in Respiratory Therapy (I am not taking anything away from them for I consider them the founding fathers of Resp care in the Phils, and I am not trying to be politically correct =) )
you missed the emoticon at the end, it felt like i got trapped in my own words for being anally p.c. I agree with RCP being a generic term.
Yes I agree. The funny thing is that I know of a few fully credentialed RTs that preferred to be labeled as RCP because they see the term RT as being old fashioned and outdated!?
Interesting way of seeing it. It seems to be a whole different issue in the Philippines. Thank you for your point of view.
neb jockeys? LOL j/k
Al, check this out: http://www.nbrc.org/Home/AboutNBRC/tabid/73/Default.aspx
Inhalation Therapists actually existed, and "Lucy" isn't the most significant missing link to the Homo sapiens anymore LOL.
Rcp is for the rmt who is working as respiratory therapist while rt is for the graduates of bachelor in respiratory therapy.
I think Respiratory Therapist is for all RT with Qualifications and Passed their Board Examination Via National Board of Respiratory care either you are A graduate of Medical technology or a bachelor in Respiratory Therapist Thank You gooday.
RCP is an appropriate term for all of us. Then we are again subdivided by post or by credentials either (Registered) Respiratory Therapist and Respiratory Therapy Technician can also be Certified Respiratory Therapist.
